It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to my official Ghana Election 2008 campaign website. Please take a moment to look around.
My decision to enter this race was based on my personal conviction that there is a better way to accelerate our nation’s growth plans to achieve our collective goals to generally improve our lives; to have good drinking water for all; affordable quality healthcare for all; decent housing for all and; adequate and nutritious food for all. In addition to these basic needs, I believe our nation is poised for accelerated take-off which when properly executed will propel us beyond the modest middle income status that has been the expressed vision of the last two administrations.
I am a compassionate capitalist. I believe that the basis of capitalism is personal responsibility. I believe that when individuals take responsibility for themselves it will leave the government with tasks which can only be handled in the public domain. I believe that it is the responsibility of Government to provide an enabling environment for the people to take care of themselves. I also believe that Government is responsible for the welfare of those who are not fortunate enough to be capable of being responsible for themselves.
My decision to enter this race as an INDEPENDENT was based on my conviction that our past leadership under the organized political party system has failed us as a nation. This is largely due to the following:
- There is too much polarization in our political system. As a result, there is no continuity in plans and projects from one administration to another. Also, the opposition tends to sit on the side lines on critical issues waiting for the ruling government to fail so they can use the failure for political gain.
- The political parties spend too much time playing the blame game. They are always pointing fingers at each other and blaming each other for problems in our society and our economy instead of concentrating on solutions to the problems.
- There is too much party cronyism in government. Contracts are awarded along party lines so that contractors can make contributions to parties. If you are not a ruling party member, you have to wait until your party is in power.
- The continuing quest for survivability and retention of power causes governments to shy away from taking the tough and unpopular decisions that are needed to propel the nation.
At this point in the growth of our young democracy, I believe we need neutrality at the top to help harness the power of our collective brain power to concentrate it on solving the crucial problems facing our nation. This is something only an independent President can do. As an independent with no party affiliation, I will be free to select from the very best talent available from all sides of the political divide to form a competent non-partisan government that will drive the interest of all Ghanaians at the same time instead of just the interest of a few party members.
I believe that the problems facing our nation can be encapsulated in two words: The Economy. If we get the economy right everything else will fall in place.
Government needs money to provide infrastructure needed for our nation’s continued growth; to provide proper and affordable educational investment in the most valuable asset that our nation has…its people; to provide affordable health protection for the people; to provide security against internal and external threats and; to maintain governance and the rule of law to ensure fairness and equity.
The people need money in order to be responsible for themselves; to provide nutritious and adequate food and decent shelter for themselves and their families; to pay for proper healthcare for themselves and their families; to provide proper education for their children and; to pay for extra-basic amenities that all human beings want for their families.
These two needs are interdependent, and form the basis of what I call the “opportunity cycle”.
Welcome once again. Let us get off the vicious cycle of poverty and hop on the opportunity cycle of prosperity. Come on and ride with me...
